"Not one drop of my self-worth depends on your acceptance of me."
Men are from Mars and so are women: Sex & the city/ Kardashian gals and animus possession in contemporary western society
A scene from "Mars Attack!" (1996) by Tim Burton
In my short film "Papa Gorilla Banana", a teenage girl is left alone with her insensitive father (with a Hitler mustache) and her underdeveloped sisters after her NASA working mother has left for Mars. To make it worse, her father brings his hairy lap partner Mr. Go (rilla) home, the incarnation of ultimate testosterone who she strongly believes, would end up raping her. Instead of protecting his paranoid daughter, her father questions her morality for being unkind to his guest and even creates occasions where she gets left alone with Mr. Go. Obviously, there is no way in the hell her father will "get" her female sensitivity. The more she feels misunderstood, the more she yearns for her mother's presence but all her mother has left her with was a box full of tampons and condoms, her touchingly "thoughtful" gift to get her daughter prepared for womanhood.
"We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free." -Kavita N. Ramdas-
Boim Hwang has been living her life with high intensity and she brings intensity to everything she does. She loves sushi because it's raw like herself and is afraid of hipsters more than ghosts or serial killers.
